The area of men’s health focuses on male specific health issues, especially diseases that affect men exclusively or more frequently than women. Men’s health as a separate entity is relatively new and now has a special focus on, amongst others, surveillance for cardiac disease, prostate cancer and testosterone deficiency syndrome, to name a few.
In South Africa and many other countries across the world, the life expectancy for men is several years less than that of women. One of the contributing factors behind this is the different habits that men and women display in terms of seeking medical assistance. Men are 25% less likely to have visited their doctor in the last year than women and 40% more likely to have skipped required medical screening than women, and are thus at higher risk of serious medical consequences.
Most health issues are more manageable through early detection and treatment therefore, we at Dr CG Du Plessis & Partners are dedicated to providing men with a targeted approach to men’s health.
